Actress, author, talk show host, activist and philanthropist, Holly Robinson Peete has been touched by the entertainment industry all of her life. Her career as an actress dates back more than three decades. She is well known for her roles as ‘Officer Judy Hoffs’ on the Fox TV police drama 21 JUMP STREET, ‘Vanessa Russell’ on the ABC sitcom HANGIN’ WITH MR. COOPER, and ‘Dr. Malena Ellis’ on the NBC/WB sitcom FOR YOUR LOVE. She also served as one of the original co-hosts of the CBS Daytime talk show THE TALK, where she was known for being especially vocal about autism, since her son RJ was diagnosed with autism at age three. In 2011, she hosted a weekly series on THE TALK promoting autism awareness. The Peete family first starred in a reality TV series on OWN, FOR PEETE’S SAKE, for two seasons. The family then starred in Hallmark series MEET THE PEETES, that documents Holly’s life, her husband Rodney (an NFL veteran quarterback and host), and their kids, twins Ryan and RJ, Robinson and Roman and Holly’s now 85-year old mother, Dolores. The series ran for two seasons, and was Hallmark Channel’s first entry into unscripted reality television. Holly also recurred on the NBC hit series CHICAGO FIRE, and was a series regular on shows such as LOVE, INC., LIKE FAMILY, MY WONDERFUL LIFE, and ONE ON ONE. She recently starred as ‘Tami Gaines’ in the 5th and final season of ABC series AMERICAN HOUSEWIFE.
Known as a familiar face in many Hallmark Channel Christmas movies, Holly has starred in CHRISTMAS IN EVERGREEN, THE CHRISTMAS DOCTOR, A FAMILY CHRISTMAS GIFT, ANGEL OF CHRISTMAS, and MORNING SHOW MYSTERIES. She also reprised her role as ‘Officer Judy Hoffs’ in the film adaptation of 21 JUMP STREET.
In 2006, she won the Quills Award in Sports for the book GET YOUR OWN DAMN BEER, I’M WATCHING THE GAME!: A WOMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVING PRO FOOTBALL. In 2011 she released children's book MY BROTHER CHARLIE, a thoughtful and moving story authored by Holly and her daughter Ryan as a team, based on their experiences living with Ryan’s twin brother RJ. The book won her an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work, in addition to the Dolly Gray Children's Literature Award. The Peetes revisited the topic of autism in 2016 with SAME BUT DIFFERENT: TEEN LIFE ON THE AUTISM EXPRESS, featuring fictionalized versions of Ryan and RJ who were both co-authors with their mother.
Holly is the founder of the HOLLYROD FOUNDATION, which was established to generate funds to fight Parkinson's disease, help children with autism, and improve the quality of life for those in need. She is known as a crusader to end autism and Parkinson’s, as her family is touched by both. In 2010, she participated in THE CELEBRITY APPRENTICE 3 for her foundation.
She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a degree in psychology and French. She studied abroad for a year at the Sorbonne, and is fluent in French. While there she sang in Paris nightclubs, including a performance with jazz musician Lionel Hampton at the Hotel Meridian Jazz Club. She contributed her vocals to the theme song of 21 JUMP STREET, and contributed a variety of songs to the soundtrack of the film HOWARD THE DUCK. She recorded the theme song WE GOT OUR LOVE for the 1988 film THREE FOR THE ROAD. She and Dawnn Lewis, along with R&B quartet En Vogue, performed the theme song for the first season of HANGIN’ WITH MR. COOPER. She was featured in the video for the 1990 hit single WHIPE APPEAL by Babyface, in addition to Luther Vandross’ DANCE WITH MY FATHER music video in 2003.
Holly will next star in Hallmark film OUR CHRISTMAS JOURNEY premiering December 4th, which will be Holly’s 8th Christmas film with the network. She will release children's book CHARLIE MAKES A SPLASH in April, her third book with Scholastic. In June 2022, she will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
