Biography

This year, actor on the rise Dallas Dupree Young can be seen reprising his role as Kenny in the final season of Netflix’s critically acclaimed, Emmy nominated series “Cobra Kai.” Starring alongside Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Tanner Buchanan and Xolo Maridueña, Young joined the cast in season four and instantly became a fan favorite as Kenny, a karate student within the dojo who becomes a powerful fighter in the quest to defend himself against bullies, and gain confidence. Having struggled throughout his childhood, Kenny finds hope and strength through the teachings of his dojo. A continuation of the 1980’s blockbuster film franchise “The Karate Kid” (Columbia Pictures), “Cobra Kai” picks up over thirty years from where the films ended with Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (Zabka) once again becoming karate rivals in Los Angeles ’San Fernando Valley and now teaching a new generation of students with their own dojos.

Critics have praised Young’s performance on the show throughout seasons four and five, saying “...newcomer Kenny (Dallas Dupree Young) is a bright spot” (The A.V. Club), “...Kenny’s story is easily the most interesting one of the season, and Young is the perfect fit for the cast. His inclusion adds something fresh to the season” (Gamespot) and “...it’s not like the writers, or Young, waste the space that Kenny has been given” (Polygon) to name a few. The action-packed sixth and final season of “Cobra Kai” debuted globally on Netflix in three parts: July 18, 2024 (Part 1), November 28, 2024 (Part 2) and February 13, 2025 (Part 3).

In film, Young was recently seen in the coming-of-age drama “1-800-Hot-Nite” where he plays Tommy, a troubled teen in foster care who is struggling to find his purpose and goes on a journey with his two best friends to escape his reality. Throughout it all, Tommy keeps calling an 800 number as he feels the woman on the line (Ali Richey) is the only adult he can confide in. The film premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and claimed the Audience Award for Fusion Features at the Dances With Films festival. Quiver Distribution acquired the North American rights in July 2022 and the film was released globally via all streaming platforms on November 4, 2022.

Also in film, Young appeared as a Young Willie Mays Aikens in the new indie biopic film “The Royal” (Samuel Goldwyn Films) alongside Amin Joseph, Andrea Navedo and LisaRaye McCoy. “The Royal” tells the story of Willie Mays Aikens, a former Major League Baseball first baseman on the Kansas City Royals team who struggled with drug addiction. Additional credits include Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” (Warner Bros.) and Netflix’s “The Main Event.” From 2018-19, Young starred in Nickelodeon’s comedy series “Cousins for Life” which followed his character, Stuart, moving in with his cousins and learning to navigate living together under one roof. Additional television credits include Freeform’s “The Fosters” and “Good Trouble,” ABC’s “Mixed-ish,” and “The Mayor,” NBC’s “The Good Place,” Showtime’s “Shameless,” Netflix’s “The Big Show Show” and Disney Channel’s “Sydney to the Max.” Young also has an extensive voiceover career which includes Netflix’s “The Glitch Techs,” Peacock’s “Where’s Waldo?” and Disney Junior’s “Vampirina.”

Born in Houston, Texas, Young originally wanted to be a baseball player as his father is a former Los Angeles Dodgers player (and current Anaheim Angels coach) and his brother is a former Major League Baseball outfielder. Acting wasn’t on Young’s radar until his family received an impromptu phone call inviting him to a Houston showcase for undiscovered talent. He decided that it would be a fun opportunity. So he attended. This event led Young to take part in a Los Angeles showcase where he signed with representation and eventually started training with top coaches and taking acting classes. He quickly began booking roles and has been acting professionally ever since. Young considers himself a storyteller and enjoys the fact that acting gives him the opportunity to tell stories, through the lens of the characters he gets to explore, while exploring the depth of his own emotions.

When he is not on set, Young enjoys playing sports, hanging out with friends and playing video games. He also enjoys learning and his favorite subjects in school include Science and Spanish. Young is an active supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and The Hope of The Valley’s “Feed The Hungry” Program.

He currently resides in Los Angeles.
