
Tony Award winner, youngest Disney Legend, Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King, acclaimed Broadway role in Uncle Vanya and in The Balusters
Tony Award winner Anika Noni Rose was recently seen in the Showtime series, Let the Right One In. She drew notice for her acclaimed performance as Regina in Netflix’s most-watched limited series to date, _Maid, _opposite Margaret Qualley and Nick Robinson, for which she was nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special” at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards.
She starred in the Broadway world premiere of David Lindsay-Abaire's The Balusters, which has been nominated for Outstanding Play at the 2026 Drama League Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Play, and earned her a nomination at the 2026 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Play. She also recently starred on Broadway in Uncle Vanya at Lincoln Center Theater's Vivian Beaumont Theater to rave reviews, with The New York Times praising her arrival as a haunting, decisive Elena. Next up, she will star in the coming-of-age indie feature Shadow Dance.
In 2021, Anika hosted the third season of the Being Seen Podcast where she led important conversations on in-depth exploration of the Black female experience, told through ten episodes that explore the ways in which we inhabit spaces likes power, freedom, desire and safety.
Rose appeared in _Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey _(Netflix), Lena Waithe’s horror anthology _Them _(Amazon) and Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu) with Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. Additionally, Anika led the cast of BET’s series _The Quad _as Eva Fletcher for two seasons and in 2017, she starred in the film Everything, Everything based off the popular young adult novel of the same name by Nicola Yoon.
Previously, Anika starred in History Channel’s adaption of Roots as Kizzy (NAACP Image Award nomination). On the big screen, Anika starred as ‘Lorell Robinson’ in Dreamgirls (AFI Ensemble Award, SAG Award nomination, Grammy Award nomination). Television credits include: Them, Little Fires Everywhere, The Quad, Power, The Good Wife, The Simpsons, the miniseries Roots, and The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency for HBO. Rose’s film credits include Dreamgirls; For Colored Girls; Half of A Yellow Sun; Everything, Everything; and Assassination Nation. She recently starred in action comedy Outlaw Johnny Black, and voiced 'Catwoman' in Injustice.
Anika voiced ‘Princess Tiana’ in Disney’s The Princess and The Frog, featuring the first African American Disney ‘Princess.’ The film received three Oscar nominations and Anika became the youngest inductee to ever be honored as a Disney Legend. Her children's book TIANA'S PERFECT PLAN released in October 2024. She also Mufasa's mother 'Afia' in Disney's Mufasa: The Lion King alongside Beyoncé and Blue Ivy, and lends her voice to Disney+ series Eyes of Wakanda and SuperKitties, the film Zootopia 2, and Prime Video's The Mighty Nein, for which she is nominated for the 2026 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance (Television).
She won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in _Caroline, or Change (Lucille Lortel Award, Theatre World Award, Obie Award, Clarence Derwent Award, Drama Desk nomination). Additional Broadway credits: A Raisin in the Sun _(Tony Award nomination and Outer Critics Circle nomination), Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Footloose. She will appear this spring on Broadway in Lincoln Center Theater’s production of _Uncle Vanya _opposite Steve Carell, William Jackson Harper and Alfred Molina.
A twelve-time NAACP Image Award nominee, Rose has voiced many audiobooks, and has performed all over the world, including singing at Carnegie Hall and the Vatican.
